The Leadership Team

A diversity of gifts...working together to glorify God.

God has unified our hearts around the mission of seeing God's glory made known through the planting of local churches in the unreached corners of our country.

In 2011, God began moving individually and yet similarly in all four of our families. He was poking at our comfort zones and working on our hearts about steps of faith. We had been serving in pastoral or itinerant ministry for 8+ years, and through different friends and ministry connections, we began to talk and pray about urban church planting. Later that year, we took a survey trip together to Salt Lake City, and as we talked, God began to ignite incredible unity of vision and mission in our hearts! We believe that God brought us together "for such a time as this." The more we sought God's will, the more we wanted to take what God had taught us over the last decade and share it with people who do not have access to it.

In November 2011, we resigned our ministries, raised mission support and relocated our families to plant Gospel Grace Church in downtown Salt Lake City.

Jonathan & Sarah Albright

The AlbrightsJonathan and Sarah spent 10 years on staff at a church in Milwaukee, WI before moving to SLC. They have been invaluable to the church plant because of a sweet ability to cultivate friendships and to share truth within these friendships. Jonathan graduated from Bob Jones University with a degree in church music and is presently pursuing a masters in theological studies. His service as worship pastor over the years has been deepened by a commitment to personal Bible study and worship. Gospel Grace Campus Fellowship is a wonderful ministry organization, directed by Jonathan, on the campus of the University of Utah. If you are looking for friendship and discipleship, find the Albrights: they’re always ready to share from the heart!

Jonathan rarely sleeps, but still manages to keep up with his five kiddos. Sarah has an affinity for felt and makes all sorts of terrific things from the substance. The children seem to be natural gymnasts and even the baby is almost walking at 7 months! Albright kids love trampolines and bike riding and crafts and eating toast with the neighbors!

My Life verse:
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6

Lukus & Liesl Counterman

Lukus began pastoral ministry shortly after his marriage to Liesl in 2000. They ministered together in Maryland and Texas before moving to Salt Lake in 2012. Lukus’ most recent pastoral experience involved shepherding a church for almost eight years in Wichita Falls, where he finished his DMin from Dallas Theological Seminary and also entered the Air Force as a Reserve Chaplain. These years prepared him in many ways for the ministry of church planting in Utah. The Countermans’ days are filled with learning to pursue Jesus in all they are called to do, whether parenting their four kids, working at the Air Force Base, participating in community life, counseling or giving the gospel. The joy they have is a gift from God and they love to share grace with all the people God puts into their lives!

Lukus loves books and loves Lukus; he may also never be out of the halls of learning as he teaches online seminary courses for Maranatha Baptist University, while continuing his own pursuit of a PHD in systematic theology from Southeastern. Liesl loves writing and music and may sometimes forget to do housework. The kids love swimming, longboarding, soccer, skiing, basketball, English, History, Music and art—you’ll have to get to know which kids like which pastime!

I try to make these verses a reality in my life...
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:20-21

Will & Christy Galkin

Will has traveled as an itinerant evangelist since completing his Masters degree in Pastoral Studies from Bob Jones University. He and his wife Christy have served together since 2000, ministering in churches across America. Together with their five children and a team of ministry-minded adults, they developed a heart for planting churches in the West. Will, having grown up in Idaho, was particularly burdened for Salt Lake City. God used this burden and his connections with churches to help form the leadership team of Gospel Grace Church. Will has been working on his Masters degree in Apologetics from BIOLA and hopes to use what he’s been learning to reach people in the valley. This past summer, the Galkins were heavily involved in Plant Camps. These are mission camps in which churches from across the USA send teams to help our Salt Lake City church plant and also to be encouraged to be healthy church members in their home churches. You can get to know their ministry a little better at

Will loves soccer, is a history buff, and may or may not covet Volkswagens. Christy lights up the room with her smile and beautiful violin playing. The children are readers, soccer players and musicians. The Galkins specialize in making friends and are used by God to introduce many people to Jesus.

My ministry philosophy...
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. 2 Corinthians 4:5

Jon & Beth Kopp

Jon and Beth spent 8 years in pastoral ministry in Tennessee after graduating from Bob Jones University. They bring big hearts for families and the needy to the church plant. God has led them in tangible actions of mercy through their home as foster parents, counselors and a lot of home-cooked meals! Jon is particularly gifted in graphic design and is a website builder and guru: in this age of technology, his gifts are exponentially valuable as he serves in church administration. Jon has a knack for just about everything and is continuing his masters degree in Biblical Studies. You can count on an awesome community group experience in the Kopp home, so check it out if you can!

Jon coaches soccer, is the secret inventor of the internet (sorry, Al Gore), sings well and is the closest thing to a human emoticon you will ever meet! (No such thing as boring in his life) Beth has a unique gift for paparazzi photography and shares her talents only with her closest friends. Their three young kids are full of fun and ideas for bug hunts, car races or park play dates! Jon and Beth have been foster parents for almost two years, and they love opening their home to boys and girls as often as they can.

A verse that I try to make define my life...
But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. Galatians 6:14
